10th Femme Frontera Filmmaker Showcase

Founded in 2016 by women and gender-expansive filmmakers from the U.S.-Mexico border regions of El Paso, Texas, Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, México, Femme Frontera is a Latina-led film organization. Its 10th annual showcase, and sixth to be shown in the Plaza Classic, features eight short films by filmmakers from Peru, New Zealand, Bolivia, Iran, and, in the United States, the Cherokee Nation, Puerto Rico, Albuquerque, and El Paso. It includes La Chingada, a comedic short by El Paso’s Daniella Balarezo and Hannah Hollandbyrd. A celebration of borderland storytellers and the power of film to connect, inspire, and transform, this year’s selections explore identity, migration, grief and love through bold, intimate storytelling. — Lisa Elliott
