Director of Food & Beverage

Director of Food & Beverage will direct, coordinate and be responsible for all food and beverage services at Destination El Paso, including banquets, concessions, bar service, catering (on and off premise), and retail outlets by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Daily management of the Food & beverage Department

• Markets food and beverage services to clients and establishes food and beverage controls

• Meets with client groups to plan and organize food and beverage needs

• Oversees food and beverage operations during events to ensure client satisfaction

• Guides clients in preparation of events by interpreting and explaining contract provisions, policies and procedures

• Creates menu plans and proposals for events

• Inspects food service facilities to ensure that equipment and buildings meet requirements of state and local health laws and internal regulations

• Provides clear, concise and timely communication of detailed requirements to operational departments

• Analyzes information concerning facility operation such as daily food sales, patron attendance, and labor costs to prepare budget and maintain cost control of facility operations

• Maintains cost and quality control standards

• Oversees the inventory process of all food, equipment, small ware, assets of the food and beverage department

• Attends appropriate planning, organization and other event and facility meetings in support of facility operations

• Follow cash handling polices and procedures, as well as other SMG, Savor and building specific policies and procedures

• Meet deadlines for reports and/or projects required by General Manger, Assistant General Manager, and/or Regional Manager

• Hire, train, manage, coach, discipline and hold all F&B employees accountable for their responsibilities

• Demonstrate the ability at problem solving, planning, organizing, and logistics

• Excellent guest service skills are necessary, as the position requires frequent interaction with internal and external guests, vendors and other visitors to the facility

• Serves as manager on duty as required

• Position requires a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays as required

• Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources Department; addressing complaints and resolving problems

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree from accredited four-year college or university in hospitality, business or related field preferred

• Three to five (3-5) years of increasingly responsible experience in Food & Beverage in a convention center or public assembly facility setting

• Customer service experience is required

• Sales experience is required

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Alcohol Training

• Food Handler

SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Demonstrate knowledge in industry terminology, facility capabilities, operational procedures, event coordination and event-related services

• Demonstrate the principles and techniques of supervision, training, budgeting and other administrative duties

• Handle conflict, make common sense decisions and exercise proper action during high tension and stressful situations

• Know basic accounting

• Handle multiple tasks simultaneously

• Operate portable radio and standard office equipment including copier and fax machine

• Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with other in both oral and written form

• Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines with special attention to detail

• Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule, and produce accurate results

• Work independently, exercising judgment and initiative

• Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, exhibitors, patrons and others encountered in the course of employment

• Be licensed and insured to operate a motor vehicle in the United States

• Effective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills required

• Basic knowledge of Spanish preferred

COMPUTER SKILLS

Operate a personal computer using Windows, Microsoft Office software and knowledgeable in event software
