Catering Sales Manager

Position Summary:

Destination El Paso’s Food and Beverage Catering Sales Manager is responsible for driving revenue and managing the catering sales operations within the convention center. This role involves developing and implementing sales strategies to attract and retain clients, coordinating with various departments to ensure exceptional service delivery, and overseeing the planning and execution of food and beverage services & catering sales for events. The Food and Beverage Catering Sales Manager will oversee the sales and execution of Banquet Event Order (BEO) and equipment rentals of Destination El Paso, Mexican American Cultural Center and La Nube Museum.

Responsibilities include the following but not limited to:

  • Sales and Upselling: Seek out and capitalize on new sales opportunities, build and nurture client relationships, and oversee the entire sales process from the initial client engagement to the negotiation of catering menus. Consistently meet or surpass sales goals for catering and event services.
  • Client Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing expert advice on menu options, event logistics, and service arrangements. Ensure client satisfaction through personalized service and attention to detail.
  • Event Planning and Coordination: Collaborate with clients and internal teams to plan and execute food and beverage services for events, including menu planning, staff planning, and setup. Oversee event operations to ensure high-quality service and adherence to client specifications.
  • Team Building: Setting goals, providing feedback, and fostering a collaborative work environment. Coordinate with kitchen and service staff to ensure seamless event execution.
  • Budget and Financial Management: Develop and manage catering budgets, pricing strategies, and cost control measures. Monitor financial performance and report on key metrics, including revenue, profitability, and client satisfaction.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Implement marketing strategies to promote the convention center’s catering services, including participating in trade shows, creating promotional materials, and leveraging digital platforms.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies. Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and service.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Work Contact: Daily communication with Food and Beverage Director, Executive Chef, Operation Manager and other Destination El Paso Employees and Leadership Team.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Occasionally oversee banquet operations and assume Manager on Duty responsibilities when required.

Working conditions:

This position requires working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with evening and weekend hours to accommodate events. The role involves interaction with clients, vendors, and team members, requiring strong interpersonal and communication skills. This position requires minimal stooping and lifting. Must be able to lift and/or moving up to 25 pounds. Substantial walking and manual dexterity to operate office equipment such as computer is required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Understanding of Sales and Marketing Principles: Demonstrated knowledge of sales and marketing strategies essential for promoting Destination El Paso.
  • Relevant Experience: Minimum of 5 years of practical sales experience in a restaurant, hotel or convention center setting.
  • Advanced Communication Skills: Proficient in both oral and written communication.
  • Customer Service Expertise: Strong customer service skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Results-Driven: Proven ability to achieve and exceed sales goals.
  • Organizational and Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional skills in organization, planning, communication, and interpersonal interactions.
  • Task Management: Capable of handling and completing multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Computer Proficiency: Advanced computer skills.
  • Flexible Availability: Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
