Destination El Paso and its operating divisions, Visit El Paso and El Paso Live

experienced unprecedented success in fiscal year 2014-2015 and it’s my pleasure

to share our triumphs with you via our Annual Report. The organization definitely

worked hard to keep momentum going in terms of event programming, as well as

maintaining existing relationships and creating new ones within the community.

One of the most notable events we hosted as an organization (Visit El Paso and El

Paso Live) was the 2015 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships.

The event, which spread over a whopping 127 days was wildly successful and we

welcomed more than 60,000 professional bowlers and their guests. The feedback

we’ve received from the organizers and the participants has been extremely

positive and we can confidently say that we have recruited thousands of El Paso

ambassadors who were pleasantly surprised by their experience in the Sun City –

several of them are planning to a return trip with their friends and families.

With the assistance of the El Paso Hotel Motel Association and other partners, El

Paso’s hospitality industry continues to make impressive strides. El Paso’s hotel

occupancy rate increased to 68.4% and total gross hotel revenue was $177.2 million

over the last twelve months. Equally impressive, 13,000 people were employed by

the hospitality industry and total travel spending was $1.6.

In conjunction with National Travel and Tourism Week, we officially launched a new

multi-component advertising campaign called “You Better El Paso Up.” Much like

our city, the campaign is fun and quirky and alludes to the wide array of authentic,

off-the-beaten path experiences they can have here.

That same week, we rolled out a brand new, state-of-the-art smartphone app that

has garnered significant media attention because of its unique capabilities. What
