The El Paso Choral Society presents one of the most popular musical works of our time: Carmina Burana by Carl Orff on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at 7:30 PM with the El Paso Chorale and Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de la UACJ (the professional orchestra of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico), and professional soloists at the Abraham Chavez Theatre. The concert will also include the Carmen Suite by Georges Bizet.
This passionate and thrilling music will be performed by the 100-voice El Paso Chorale, professional orchestra including the professional orchestra of Juarez, and professional soloists. Prentice Loftin, EPCS Music Director, will conduct. The soloists will be Deanna Breiwick, soprano; Gregory Schmidt, tenor; and Michael Anthony McGee, bass. They have performed with the Metropolitan Opera, Opera Orchestra of New York, Opera Philadelphia, El Paso Opera, Nashville Opera, and many others.
The El Paso Chorale has been performing the major choral/orchestral works in El Paso for over 70 years. Its repertoire includes the Requiems by Mozart, Verdi, and Durufle; Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Missa Somemnes, Mass in C; Mendelssohn’s Elijah; Haydn’s Creation; Poulenc’s Gloria; and Bach’s St. John Passion. The El Paso Chamber Choir, which performs with the Chorale, was formed in 1995 and became the professional core group of singers for the larger performances by the Chorale. The Chamber Choir was also the opera chorus in 27 opera productions with El Paso Opera. Both choirs have performed many times with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, Las Cruces Symphony, and the Juarez Symphony.
