El Paso Choral Society Presents: Handel’s Messiah & The Gift of Christmas at the Abraham Chavez Theatre

The El Paso Choral Society presents the world’s most beloved and performed Christmas work, Handel’s Messiah, with orchestra and professional soloists at the Abraham Chavez Theatre on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 7:30 PM.

The first half of the program will kick off with the Gift of Christmas featuring world-renown saxophonist Mack Goldsbury, with his Trio – Eric Unsorth on string bass and Ricky Malichi on drums. There will be a presentation of Christmas favorites and audience sing-a-longs, ending in a powerful rendition of O Holy Night. The second half of the program will be Handel’s Messiah conducted by Prentice Loftin.
Join us for this inspiring music performed by the over 100-voice El Paso Chorale, professional orchestra, and professional soloists. Prentice Loftin, EPCS Music Director, will conduct. The orchestra concertmaster will be Dr. Stephanie Meyers. The soloists will be Natanya Washer, soprano; Alto, Stephanie Sanchez; Francisco Almanza, tenor; and Ricardo Herrera, bass. All soloists are native El Pasoans with careers as professional singers living in Baltimore, Maryland; Houston, Texas; Germany; and Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, respectively.

The El Paso Chorale has been performing the major choral/orchestral works in El Paso for over 70 years. Its repertoire includes the Requiems by Mozart, Verdi, and Durufle, Beethoven’s Ninth, Missa Somemnes, Mass in C, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Haydn’s Creation, Poulenc’s Gloria, and Bach’s St. John Passion. The El Paso Chamber Choir was formed in 1995 and became the professional core group of singers for the larger performances by the Chorale. The Chamber Choir was also the opera chorus in 27 opera productions with El Paso Opera. Both choirs have performed many times with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, Las Cruces Symphony, and the Juarez Symphony.
