El Paso Community Foundation, El Paso Community College and El Paso Live are pleased to announce the 2016 season of Viva! El Paso at the McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre from June 17 through August 7. The outdoor musical extravaganza will be performed each Friday and Saturday night, with special Sunday night performances on July 3 and August 7. All performances are at 8:30pm.
Viva! El Paso, which features a refreshed script by Tony-Award winning El Paso playwright Marty Martin, chronicles the 400-year history and cultural evolution of the El Paso region. This colorful musical spectacular celebrates the four major cultures that have influenced the City of the Sun. The Native American, the Spanish Conquistador, the Mexican and the Western American cultures and their histories come alive through drama, song and dance by a cast of over 50 performers. Keith Townsend, Director of EPCC’s theatre and forensics program, will serve as Artistic Director for Viva! El Paso. There is also some new music written by El Pasoans Jim Ward and Gabriel Gonzalez.
Tickets for Viva! El Paso go on sale Thursday, May 19 at 10am. Tickets can be purchased at ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets, charge-by-phone at 800-745-3000, and the Plaza Theatre Box Office.
