This ONE NIGHT ONLY PERFORMANCE of “Seussical, the Musical” is based on the Dr. Seuss books Horton Hears a Who!, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Green Eggs and Ham, Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories, Horton Hatches the Egg, I Had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew, McElligot’s Pool, Hunches in Bunches, If I Ran the Circus, The Butter Battle Book, Oh, the Thinks You Can Think!, The Cat in the Hat, The Sneetches and Other Stories, Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are?, Oh, the Places You’ll Go!, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.
The Cat in the Hat narrates and tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to a butter battling military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton’s attention to the speck of dust and his “loitering” care of Mayzie LaBird’s egg has elicited taunting and accusations from the rest of the animal kingdom, except for Gertrude McFuzz, who longs for his attention, and JoJo, whose “thinks” save them all in the end.
This KIDS-N-CO. performance is more than just a musical. It is a celebration of literacy. Through this production, KIDS-N-CO. will be providing the performance for students in El Paso schools, both public and private. March 1 is Read Across America, designated by the National Education Agency. Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on or around March 2, the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss. In addition, we will be having a public performance that will educate people on the importance of literacy. Motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. Research has shown that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in school.
